Emergency Medical Services
The Fire Department provides emergency ambulance service for the community with the three different levels of service listed below.

An Emergency Medical Technician, EMT Basic is some one who is trained in Basic life saving techniques. These include but are not limited to CPR, Rescue Breathing, Oxygen therapy, Child birth, Cervical and fracture immobilization.


An EMT Intermediate has expanded there training to include advanced patient assessment, Intravenous therapy and Advanced Airway stabilization devices.


The EMT Paramedic, is the highest trained level of pre-hospital provider in Massachusetts .  The EMT-P is skilled in all Basic skills as well as the advanced airway and Intravenous therapy.  They are also trained to the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) level.  This includes the treatment of cardiac related chest pain / Myocardial Infarctions, Congestive Heart Failure, Anaphylaxis, Diabetic Emergencies, Seizures, Asthma and COPD. Included in most training are Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training designed especially for the smaller patient. Also a course in Prehospital  Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).  Currently 11 members are certified as EMT-Paramedic.

The Wilbraham Fire Department was officially certified at the Paramedic Level Monday May 24, 1999.

In calendar year 2009, the department responded to 1514 medical calls, of which 1273 of the calls were transports to area hospitals.
