SPEC ADVENTURE
COUNSELOR IN TRAINING PROGRAM
The Counselor in Training (CIT) program provides training in leadership skills through a summer camp work experience, under the guidance and supervision of a designated CIT Director. Activities include training in areas such as communication skills, teamwork, outdoor activity planning, goal setting, safety, and other related subjects. In addition, CIT 's spend time with campers in order to gain valuable hands-on experience assisting the staff in many areas of the camp program The many skills learned by the CIT will be useful and valuable in future success in any workplace.
The CIT position is an unpaid position with the selected applicant incurring the cost outlined below.
AGE QUALIFICATIONS: CITs must be either 14 or 15 as of June 1st.
COST: 2010 cost to be determined
LENGTH OF SESSIONS: A CIT may participate in only one three-week session. Session dates will not be adjusted. A second session may be possible only if space permits.
PARTICIPATION: Individuals will be selected by the Recreation Director utilizing the following criteria:
Residency (10 points) - Preference will be given to Wilbraham Residents
Prior Attendance (20 points)- Preference will be given to those who were previously enrolled in the Spec Program as a camper. Application (10 points) - Applications will be graded for neatness, spelling, content and completeness.
Interview (30) - Applicants will be graded on punctuality, neatness, enthusiasm, interest, confidence and experience.
References (10 points)- Applicants are required to submit two references (one personal and one teacher) for review by the Recreation Director.
SUPERVISION:
The CIT program is directly supervised by a designated director and overseen by the Spec Adventure Program Director(s).
RESPONSIBILITIES: A CIT is to be a teachable and responsible addition to the Spec Adventure program staff.
To assist in the development and implementation of specified programs, including supervision of children, materials and supplies.
To assist in the maintenance of facilities and grounds, including, but not limited to trash control, sweeping, washing tables, picking up equipment, and general care of the areas.
Serve as a positive role model for the children
TRAINING TIMES/ CAMP PARTICIPATION TIME:
Camp Hours : Monday –Friday: 8:45AM - 3:30PM
Mandatory attendance at initial training
Approximate schedule breakdown:
75% Training and hands on activities 25% Recreation activities as a CIT unit
APPLICATION PROCESS:
A CIT applicant must complete the application process as outlined in the application packet. Space is limited and applicants who submit their paperwork after the determined deadline will be placed on a waiting list and will be accepted only is space is available.
