Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident:
On Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 3:15pm, Wilbraham Police responded to a reported vehicle crash on Monson Road near #572. Investigating Officers Peter Laviolette and Thomas Korzec fond a single vehicle involved. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a large boulder and tree on the south shoulder. The driver, and only occupant is identified as a Samuel Gurley, an 86 yr. old resident of Hampden, Massachusetts. He was found to have serious injuries and was transported to Bay state Medical Center by the Monson Fire Department. Mr. Gurley Died at Baystate Medical Center several hours later. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the accident. However, Mr. Gurley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. An autopsy was performed on Tuesday, January 4, 2010. The
investigation by the Wilbraham Police Department is continuing pending the results of the autopsy.
