Please be advised that WPD has received several reports of debit and credit card fraud. Victims have been notified by their banking institutions of unusual activity. Typically the activity has been several $100 charges at various locations throughout MA and CT. Upon being notified of the fraud,  all victims have had possession of the card that was being utilized in the thefts. At this time, it appears that a skimming device is being utilized in the greater Springfield area. Skimming devices  are  hidden electronics used to steal the personal information stored on your card and record your PIN number to later access money from your account. The stolen information is subsequently embeded into a newly manufactured fraudulent card. Det Rudinski has been in contact with E. Longmeadow Police, Springfield Police, and Holyoke Police as well as authorities in Connecticut pertaining to this investigation.  PLEASE be cautious of who has access to your credit/debit card and be certain that it is always within your view when utilizing it for a purchase. Should you become a victim, please contact Det Rudinski at (413) 596-3837 7am-3pm
