[ARCHIVED] WATER DEPARTMENT ADVISORY: Protect Water Meters and Plumbing

WATER DEPARTMENT ADVISORY: Protect Water Meters and Plumbing

Due to the prolonged period of extreme cold temperatures, residents are advised to take precautions to prevent water meters and internal plumbing from freezing. Water meters and pipes located in basements, crawl spaces, garages, or exterior walls are especially vulnerable if not properly heated or insulated. Frozen meters or pipes can lead to service interruptions, significant property damage, and costly repairs. Residents should ensure that all areas containing plumbing are adequately heated, seal drafts around foundation openings, and insulate exposed pipes where possible. Taking these preventative steps now can help avoid frozen pipes and water loss during extreme cold conditions.
