[ARCHIVED] Town Secures $500K Grant for Springfield St. & Stony Hill Rd. Intersection

Wilbraham Awarded $500,000 State Grant for Safer Intersection Upgrade

The Town of Wilbraham has been awarded $500,000 through the Commonwealth’s Complete Streets Funding Program to advance safety and accessibility improvements at the Stony Hill Road & Springfield Street intersection.

The award is part of a statewide $6.6 million investment across Massachusetts supporting roadway, pedestrian, and traffic-safety upgrades in 15 communities. Wilbraham’s project focuses on improving safety, reducing congestion, and enhancing pedestrian access at one of the community’s most heavily traveled intersections.

Project improvements include:

  •  Widening and realignment of the roadway to improve sight lines and vehicle flow.
  • Adding a left-turning lane for westbound traffic on Springfield Street
  • Upgrades to traffic control systems to better manage vehicle movements.
  • New sidewalks and ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps to strengthen accessibility and walkability. Linking sidewalks along Stony Hill Road to Town Hall and the Senior Center.

These improvements build on the Town’s ongoing commitment to modernizing transportation infrastructure and enhancing safety for all roadway users.

A contract for construction has not yet been awarded. Following the annual Town Meeting in May, construction is anticipated to be performed during the summer of 2026. Additional details and current plans are available here: https://wilbraham-ma.gov/910/Projects

The Town will share additional project updates, design information, and construction timelines as they become available.
