Boston Road (Route 20) Improvement Project
The proposed project seeks to improve the safety and function of Route 20 within the project area. The project area consists of a lengthy section of Route 20 from Cottage Avenue to the Big-Y shopping center plaza. This project will be accomplished by improving the roadway pavement condition, improving intersection capacity and safety, and complying with MassDOT’s Healthy Transportation directives, which aim to increase bicycling, transit and walking options through the inclusion of wide shoulders, bike lanes and sidewalks.

Funding & Timeline
- Funding Source: The project is included in the 2029 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Pioneer Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (PVMPO).
- Estimated Cost: The total contract cost is projected to be approximately $21 million.
- Construction Timeline: Work is tentatively scheduled to begin in the summer of 2029.
